While the luxury fashion sector is facing increasing challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Christian Dior has us dreaming of European getaways in the future with the big reveal of its scooter collaboration with Vespa.
A partnership that was underway long before the pandemic, the collab includes a limited-edition iteration of the Vespa 946—a contemporary update to the scooter that was unveiled by Vespa manufacturer Piaggio in 2012, WWD reports.
The Dior Vespa was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director of Dior’s women’s collections and makes for the perfect link between the Roman designer’s work at the famed French luxury house and her Italian heritage. Coincidentally, 1946 marks the very same year that Dior opened the doors to its maison in Paris and the one in which Vespa released its first scooter in Italy.
Formally known as the Vespa 946 Christian Dior, the scooter boasts a saddle adorned with the signature Dior Oblique pattern complemented by the scooter’s patent beige finish and retro bronze-gold detailing.
A line of accessories will accompany the release, including a matching helmet and a top case that can be affixed to the luggage rack.
Discussing Dior’s collaborative project with Vespa, Chiuri shared: “For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome.”
I have so many happy memories starring a Vespa. It’s how my husband and I used to get around Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It’s a symbol of Italian-ness that is intricately linked to my personal history, and it’s now part of my professional life at Dior.”

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior is slated to become available for purchase in spring 2021, in Dior boutiques worldwide as well as a selection of Piaggio’s Motoplex stores. Stay tuned here for further updates on products and pricing.
