This old-fashioned egg pie is a dessert that is similar to an egg custard.
We are sure most of you also loved to buy a slice of pie in your local bakery when you were in elementary or highschool days!
Today we are going to show you how you can easily make it at home, and hey, it would not hurt if you can try!
INGREDIENTS:
Crust:
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 tbsp cold water
Custard:
- 4 whole eggs
- 1 3/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 9 inches pie plate
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 eggwhite (soft peak)
METHOD:
Let’s start by making the crust.
In a bowl mix all purpose flour, butter, egg yolk, brown sugar,salt, vanilla extract and cold water.
Mix until well combined.
Mix using your hands until it forms a dough.
Knead until it becomes elastic.
Put in the fridge for 1 hour.
After 1 hour flatten the dough using a rolling pan.
Put the dough in a a pie plate.
Trim the excess dough.
Decorate the edges using your fingers.
LET’S PREPARE THE CUSTARD
Whisk 4 eggs and add sugar gradually.
Add evaporated milk gradually.
Add vanilla extract.
Give it a good mix.
Set it aside.
Whisk eggwhite and beat on highspeed (electric mixer) until soft peak.
Combine the beaten eggwhite with custard mixture.
Give it a final mix.
Pour in the custard mixture into the crust.
Bake it in a pre-heated oven at 338F for 15 minutes then reduce the temp to 320F and bake for another 50 minutes.
Egg pie can now be served!
