EARTHQUAKE IN THE SOUTH OF ITALY

An earthquake in Cosenza today Monday 24 February, a shock of magnitude equal to 4.4 degrees on the Scala Richter in fact hit the Calabrian province in the afternoon, preceded and followed by other shocks a few minutes away.

According to the data provided by the Ingv, the most violent shock had a magnitude of 4.4 and was recorded by the seismographs precisely at 17.02 with the epicenter in the town of Rende, an Italian municipality of over 35 thousand inhabitants which is located just north of the capital and which makes part of the urban area of ​​Cosenza.

The geographical coordinates of the earthquake are: (lat, lon) 39.33, 16.21. Also according to the Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the earthquake in Rende had a center at a depth of about ten kilometers.

In addition to Rende, within ten kilometers of the epicenter, there are as many as 15 municipalities including the same capital Cosenza.

The municipalities are Castrolibero, Marano Marchesato, Marano Principato, San Fili, San Vincenzo La Costa, Cerisano, Castiglione Cosentino, Mendicino, Zumpano, Carolei, Montalto Uffugo, San Pietro in Guarano, Lappano and Rovito. Here the earthquake shock was distinctly felt by the population. Within twenty kilometers of the earthquake, 35 other municipalities, all in the province of Cosenza.

Many people who have left the house in fear, even if no damage to people or things has been reported at the moment.

Confirmation comes from the mayor of Cosenza himself, who explains: “People went out on the street in panic but the moment is not damage.” Hundreds of phone calls also arrived to the Fire Brigade.
